WINTER SCHOOL

NEW METHODS IN DISCRETE MATHEMATICS

Alpe d'Huez (France), 19-24 March 2000

[English | French]

A Winter School on the topic "New Methods in Discrete Mathematics" will take place between the 19th and the 24th of March 2000 in Alpe d'Huez, a skiing resort located in the French Alps near Grenoble.

Scientific Program: There will be about 4-6 hours of lectures every day: Noga ALON, András FRANK, Michel GOEMANS, Monique LAURENT, and Alexander SCHRIJVER have kindly agreed to be the lecturers. Here is an abstract of the lectures.

The participants will have the opportunity to study some of the most recent methods in Discrete Mathematics. There will be courses on five important topics of discrete mathematics: the probabilistic method, including probabilistic algorithms; semidefinite programming with applications in discrete mathematics; approximation algorithms; graph connectivity; minimization of a submodular function. The rest of the time will be free for informal meetings and research, or for winter sports.
