On this page you will find information about the banquet and the excursion.
Banquet at the Restaurant du Téléphérique (1 July)
This restaurant is situated at the top of the Bastille hill that overlooks Grenoble. The restaurant terrace offers a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding mountains. The restaurant caters for guests with special dietary requirements. The dinner will commence between 7 and 7:30pm. The banquet is included in your registration fee.
If an accompanying person wishes to participate to the banquet, he/she must register here (select "banquet" in the tarification field). The cost is 46 euros.
There are several different ways to reach the restaurant:
- By riding the "téléphérique" (the round cable cars that traverse the Isere river) which originates in the town across the river from the Bastille. The ride lasts for about three minutes. The cable car is wheelchair accessible. The conference fee includes a round-trip ticket for Tuesday evening and you can board the cable car by presenting your conference badge.
- On foot. There are several routes. This takes about one hour and the elevation is 300m.
- On the via ferrata. This approach should only be undertaken by people who are already well-trained in climbing. If you have the requisite equipment, please bring it. Otherwise, you may rent it from stores in Grenoble.
- By car (not recommended: narrow road, small parking space).
On the Bastille hill it is possible to visit a galerie of modern art "Centre d'Art Bastille" and a military museum ("Musée des Troupes de Montagne"); these two museums close at 6:00pm.
For the return trip after the conference dinner, it is recommended to descend by cable car. It is possible to return on foot, but one must be careful no to choose a path leading through a gate, since these are closed at 7:30pm, and also to bring a flashlight.
Trip to the Lake of Monteynard (2 July)
We will go by bus to visit this beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. The departure time is 1:30pm from the campus in Grenoble and the trip takes approximately 1 hour. A boat trip on the lake has been organized. The number of places for the boat trip is limited and the price is 10 Euros per person. There are also paths for walking or riding a bike and two spectacular bridges reserved for pedestrians and bikes. You can also rent windsurfing equipment, kayaks, bikes, etc. Those who prefer instead to relax on a terrace will be welcomed by the Château d'Herbelon. An exhibition room, near the pier, dedicated to EDF (the French Electricity Board) activities on Drac valley will help you to know everything about the Monteynard-Avignonet dam. See more here.
For the return trip, the bus will leave from the lake at 6pm.
